The Band
When I was in 8th grade the Beatles became famous in the US. As a result the cool thing to do in Placerville was to be in a band. None of us knew how to play anything but orchestra instruments so we went out and bought guitars and drums and learned how to play those. Some of the guys who played drums in the orchestra got drum sets but they still had to learn how to play rock and roll because all they knew was "Londonderry Air" and stuff like that. Shara Langford can vouch for that because she and I went to 8th grade and were in the orchestra together. She works in the Placerville office if you don't already know. Eventually a guy that could play piano could get into a band but not at first because the Beatles only had drums and guitars.
I don't think it's that big a deal anymore but I still see a few guys either in bands or trying to be. They do the same thing over here in France. I was caught a little off guard when I saw my first performance though. I guess I shouldn't have been so surprised. The whole band was playing french horns. What else would I expect. Just one of those babies would drown out anything else but another french horn anyway.
