Truckstop

I don't think the French people have much respect for some of the career choices that some of their members have to make.

Tuesday I decided to take the train somewhere and walked down to the train station. I had no idea what the train schedule was so I figured I would just decide where to go by finding a train that was leaving sometime after I got to the station. One was leaving for Blois in about an hour so I decided to take a walk while I was waiting.

Between the train station and the town of Amboise is the Loire River. The bridge that goes from one to the other connects a little island in the middle of the river. I decided to explore this island. It contains just a small collection of buildings next to the bridge itself and at the far end is a large park and camping area. I was walking along the only road that goes to the far end of the island when I came to an unusual sight. Reaching across the small road was a red and white striped barrier. That was not unusual but the barrier itself was several feet off of the ground. There was a circle attached to the barrier that simply said "2M", which I took to mean two meters since that is about how high off of the ground it appeared to be. My first thought was that it was intended to allow passenger cars to pass through but not trucks. My second thought was that in America we just put a sign by the side of the road that says "No trucks over ..." and then it has a weight limit. This is a lot cheaper to do and probably just as effective because this piece of wood that the sign was made out of wouldn't make a scratch on a truck if one decided to go through it. I figured whoever decides such things must have been thinking that truck drivers were too rebellious to obey a written sign. Either that or they were truck drivers to begin with because they weren't smart enough to read. Either way...
